At Grove Park, we are proud of our creative and broad curriculum. We are a school committed to a ‘personal growth’ model of teaching in which we educate the whole child and our vision is deeply centred upon the individual child. Here at Grove Park and we strive to provide an exciting and stimulating curriculum and a highly valued part of this curriculum is Music. Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity and so this fits perfectly with our vision and philosophy as a school. We believe that a high quality music education should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. Music lessons are on the weekly timetable of each class and we employ a dedicated Music Teacher.
During Music Lessons the children:
- Perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians
- Learn to sing and to use their voices, to create and compose music on their own and with others, have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, use technology appropriately and have the opportunity to progress to the next level of musical excellence
- Explore how music is created, produced and communicated, including through the use of appropriate musical notations.
Our Music Teacher, Mr David Nind, also leads weekly singing assemblies for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. The children continue to learn about pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure in these assemblies. They also have a lot of fun learning new and exciting songs!
Creativity is at the very heart of everything we do at Grove Park and we are extremely proud of our Class Assemblies, Christmas Shows and end of year productions – all of which are as good as the West End shows and give the children a chance to truly show off the musical skills they have gained throughout the year!
