Welcome to Year 3 Hazel Class!
Welcome to Hazel class’ page. In Hazel class we are ready for the challenge of year 3 and KS2 and cannot wait to see what this year brings us. Our classroom is based on the following values: to respect each other, to make marvellous mistakes (it showed that you tried!), to give everything a go, to persevere in everything we do, to be independent and finally to have fun! We hope you enjoy looking around at all of the things we have been doing!

Hazel class have had a wonderful start to year 3 and KS2 and have taken part in a whole manner of fun, interesting and educational activities. Our big topic this term was Romans and we have learnt everything we can about them. We had a Roman feast, battle (using the shields that we made), we made aqueducts and were visited by a time travelling duo who introduced us to characters from the Roman past!
During History and Geography week, we added onto our understanding of the Romans, by creating our own mosaic design, as well as learning more about Norse mythology. Our class book, Ice Palace, is set in Scandinavia.
We were also lucky enough to go to the science museum, where we rounded of our topic on forces and magnets, by participating in lots of fun experiments. Some of us even able to take part (especially Mr Hibbert!). In the classroom, we also learnt about how to make a compass and which things are magnetic. This was also the subject of our incredible class assembly!
In the middle of the term, we planted trees in Harvard Hill Park, which we plan to visit in the summer to see how they have grown.
During charities week, we learnt about and raised money for our charity Save the Children by creating dens, keyrings and worry dolls. We were very proud of the money and time we donated.
Finally, at the end of the term, we performed songs beautifully in our Christmas concert, even signing ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’. In the last week of term, we attended a panto and laughed our schools off at the actors on stage!
We are very much looking forward to the new learning and challenges that the spring term brings.
Hazel class have had a wonderful Spring term! Most excitingly, we started a brand new topic of Japan! In this topic we took part in many fun activities such as eating with chopsticks (and hot Wasabi!) learning about Japanese religions, traditional dress, special festivals and even designing our own theatre masks. We used these masks to act out as scene from our English digital literacy topic: Kubo and the Two Strings. As part of our Japan topic, we also visited the V & A museum to learn about different artefacts from countries around Asia. Some of us even tried things on!
We also had lots of fun with our science topic of Plants. We learnt about the function of a plant as well as how they grow, the different types of seed dispersal and conducted an experiment into what plants need to grow. At the end of the topic, we took a trip to Chiswick House Kitchen Gardens and learnt about all of the plants and food that they grow there. Some of us even tried some of the seeds and bulbs growing in the ground and tried on the special beekeepers outfit!
In Reading Week, we had lots of fun creating a special poetry book in which we wrote 4 haiku’s based on the seasons. A haiku is a Japanese poem the has 17 syllables, 5 on the first and last line and 7 in the middle. We decorated these in watercolours paintings, based on traditional Japanese scenes.
We hope you have a fun looking through our pictures and we are excited for the new term!
