Welcome to Year 1 Holly Class!
We have been settling into life in Year One really well!!
We have been looking at exploring addition with two digit numbers in Maths. In English we re reading Peace at Last by Jill Murphy. We even dressed up as Mr Bear to ask him some questions.
Year One Holly Class are very much looking forward to the coming year and all that we will learn.

Wow! What a busy term we have had in Year One Holly! It has gone by so quickly and we are all fully settled in and enjoying our learning.
We started the year by looking at two fantastic books, ‘Peace at Last’ by Jilly Murphy and ‘Dogger’ by Shirley Hughes. We worked super hard on creating some brilliant sentences, using capital letters, full stops and adjectives – we even began to use connectives! This term we have also become truly fantastic mathematicians. We covered place value, addition, 2D and 3D shapes (We learnt a funny dance routine to help us remember all the 2D shape names!) and began to explore subtraction.
Not only have we been working hard on our Literacy and Maths, but we have been developing some super skills in Science, History and Geography. We conducted our first ‘eggsperiment’ to help us work out what materials we could use to protect Humpty Dumpty from his fall. We learnt all about aerial view points in Geography (that’s seeing things from above) and in History, we went to The Richmond Toy Museum and learnt all about toys from the Roman, Tudor and Victorian eras and how they have changed. In Computing we have learnt all about algorithms and how to stay safe on the internet. We also created some amazing art outside, inspired by the artist Andy Goldsworthy.
We have had such a great time in the Autumn Term, we can’t wait to see what the Spring Term brings!
In Holly Class this term we have been busy busy bees! In Literacy, we have looked at the story of ‘Farmer Duck’ and amazed Miss Fane with our incredible writing! In Maths, we have been using arrays to help us with multiplication and we have also been learning to tell the time. We have also become really good at using money in Maths! In topic we have been looking at ‘farms’ and learning all about how they worked in the past and how they work today! We got to go visit Hounslow Urban Farm. Our FAVOURITE thing this term was hatching our own chicks in our classroom! We had 5 girls and 5 boys! We also really enjoyed the Reading Festival – it was such fun coming in for bedtime stories!
