Grove Park Governors: How We Work

Formal Meetings

The governors meet once a term as a full governing body. We have a detailed update from the headteacher. discuss all the major issues for the school, review how we are doing against the aims we have set ourselves and agree the annual budget. Often we have presentations on key topics from other staff too.

We also have four regular sub-committees which meet once a term and each governor is a member of at least one committee. There are four sub-committees:

  • Curriculum & Standards
  • Finance & Premises
  • Community
  • Chairs’ Group (co-ordinates business)

Informal Meetings

The Governing Body has an informal planning meeting every September to look at the year ahead.

The Chair of the Governing Body meets the Headteacher regularly to support the work of the school.

From time to time, governors form small time-limited working parties to work on specific issues or projects as needed.

Individual governors may also take on special interest areas or responsibilities. For example one governor takes responsibility for special educational needs and another for child protection matters.

Life of the School

The governors are actively involved in the life of the school, making regular visits to see the work of the school.

We hold an annual lunch for the staff of the school. Governors also run a stall at the PTA Christmas and Summer fairs each year and attend annual events such as the Summer Term Open Morning.

Every two years we send a questionnaire to parents and pupils to ask them about their experience of our school and this feedback informs our plans.
